Lakeside supplies Virginia Highlands Festival Beach Bash

Lakeside Ready Mix, Inc. is accustomed to creating custom mix designs for a variety of applications, including the foundation for a long-standing Abingdon, Virginia tradition...the annual Virginia Highlands Festival Beach Bash.

Lakeside has been the official sand supplier for the Beach Bash for five years. This year, Lakeside transported 160 tons of sand via six truck caravan to Main Street in Abingdon. The "sand fleet" was provided courtesy of Rusty Trucking, LLC and Clifton-Stewart Developers.

After hours of meticulous dumping and spreading, the town's main thoroughfare was transformed from a historic street in the mountains, to a sandy stretch of paradise, not necessarily a "sunny" paradise due to a cloudy, overcast afternoon, but paradise, nonetheless. Add 500 beach balls delivered by dump truck, a sand castle contest, the parting of the clouds and music from The Tams, world renowned for their special blend of music that makes up the Beach Music sound, and you had the perfect recipe for fun for the nearly 8,000 surf lovers in attendance.

But just like a summer romance, the beach at Abingdon couldn't last forever. After the event, Lakeside, Rusty Trucking and Clifton-Stewart worked together to sweep up the sand to be returned to the plant for recycling and use in other projects.

So, the next time you pass by that new bank building, or walk across the sidewalk, be sure to listen closely. You just might hear the ocean.
